Hello and Welcome

Hi there! I’m Kristen, a birder, Master Naturalist, Tour Leader, presenter, photographer, wildlife habitat gardener and entrepreneur based out Ontario in the Greater Toronto Area.

Welcome to my website and blog. Here I will post about my adventures in nature both at home in my garden, abroad and everywhere in between. I will also provide updates on my site about my upcoming speaking engagements/workshops, my photography, projects, and anything else that pops up.

Three different leaf 🍂 shapes one awesome tree. One with a typical leaf vibe (no lobes), the mitten (2 lobes) and what I think looks like a tapir track (3 lobes). Which leaf is your fav? Sassafrass is one of my favourite Ontario trees. I planted a few more in our garden this year and their fall colours are stunning 🍁

Thank you @nativeplant_society, Sayeh and all the volunteers for a fun native plant garden tour. Sayeh has a beautiful garden with lots of different interest. She had a fun scavenger hunt we completed and wonderful labels of host plants in her garden and which butterflies and moths use them. At the end of the tour she generously teaches winter sowing and gifts one of the several species of natives she grows. Wow! What an event! Thank you 🙏 It was so worth battling the traffic on the 401 🤣 We really enjoyed the visit and all the education 💚

One happy Pawpaw!! 🥭 I haven’t really checked in on my Pawpaws this year. I kind of forgot about them 😬 I planted them as seedlings in the tree line behind some of our gardens and they aren’t always easy to see. I couldn’t believe how big this happy this tree is. Look at those huge leaves! I wonder how long it will be until our Pawpaws are big enough to flower and produce fruit?! 🤔 I’ve yet to eat the fruit and am dying to try one! Pawpaws are also the host for Zebra Swallowtails 🦓🦋 a gorgeous butterfly who lives further south.
